  1. Natural lights – Natural light means light we receive from the sun. It increases eyesight and reduces stress. Positioning near the window can increase the chances of brighter and clear sunlight.
  2. Table lamp/ Desk lamp – It is used for both reading and decorative purpose. Even if desk space is small there are many small lamps that fit your table are available in the market. The head of the table lamps are movable so it’s easy for us to focus on a particular area. It’s best when you use it for study or work at night, specifically when you are sharing the room it avoids the disturbance for others.
  3. Pendent Lightening – It’s simply light that is hanging from the ceiling. Pendent light throws light directly to the study table hence it increases the concentration. Recently it’s gaining more popularity among the builders. It is the best way to save space in the floor area.

Vastu is an Indian Science of architecture. It is the science of directions that combines with all the five elements of nature.

  • Direction of the room – Northeast, East/west side of the house
  • Direction to face while studying – East or North 
  • Proportion of study room- should not be more than Length : width = 1 : 2
  • Place for book Racks – Southern or western Wall
  • Place for study Table- 3 to 4 inches away from the wall
  • Window Placement – Windows should be larger on eastern side and smaller on the western side of the room.
  • Shape of the study table – square or Rectangle
  • Place for the table lamp if any – Southern corner of the Desk.
  • Room color – Use light or neutral color. It increases learning capacity.

Things to avoid as per Vastu shastra

  • Ensure to avoid beams above your head while studying.
  • While studying, ensure not to face a blank wall or a window.
  • Don’t ever use the table as a book shelf and avoid keeping book rack above the table
  • Size of the study room should not be too big and should not be too small.
  • It’s better not to have toilets in the study room. However Bathroom is fine.
  • The study table should not stick to the wall.

Things to consider as per Vastu shastra

  • A pyramid can be kept near the table. It is believed that pyramids have the power to balance the energy.
  • A pendulum clock can be placed in the North East of the room.
  • You can keep your god’s photo in the room. If You are following Hinduism then you can keep lord Ganesh or goddess Saraswathi devi in the study room.
